October 1st, 2024: The International Code Council (ICC) and Oman’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning (MoHUP) recently concluded pivotal workshops aimed at refining the Oman Building Code draft. Held from September 9-12, 2024, in Muscat, these sessions gathered diverse stakeholders to provide essential feedback.
The workshops comprised two segments: Nonstructural Provisions, focusing on fire safety and accessibility, and Structural Provisions, addressing structural design. Participation was capped at 50 attendees, including designers and municipal officials, ensuring comprehensive input.
A MoHUP spokesperson stated, “These workshops are vital for developing the Oman Building Code, enhancing safety, sustainability, and innovation.”
Hamid Naderi, ICC’s Senior Vice President, noted the importance of stakeholder feedback in setting new safety benchmarks for Oman.
Led by industry experts Jay Elbettar and Satyendra K. Ghosh, the workshops gathered insights crucial for finalizing the building codes, expected in mid-2025. This collaboration highlights a commitment to advancing building standards to meet current and future challenges.
The success of these workshops demonstrates the collective dedication to improving building safety and construction practices in Oman.
