Riyadh, October 2024 – King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSHRC) continues to lead the way in healthcare innovation by integrating advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its operations. In response to the growing influence of the 4th Industrial Revolution in medicine, KFSHRC established the Centre for Healthcare Intelligence (CHI) in 2019. This strategic initiative has fueled advancements that enhance patient care, diagnosis accuracy, treatment outcomes, and operational efficiency.
CHI has developed cutting-edge AI applications and predictive models addressing various medical challenges. One of its notable breakthroughs is an AI tool that predicts complications in bone marrow transplants, enabling physicians to identify high-risk patients in advance. Additionally, a model designed for heart failure patients forecasts readmission rates, allowing clinicians to implement preventative measures and improve patient care.
KFSHRC will be showcasing its most recent advancements in generative AI at the Global Health Exhibition in Riyadh from October 21-23. Developed entirely by Saudi specialists, these innovations align with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030’s Health Sector Transformation Program, which seeks to elevate healthcare standards across the nation.
In its pursuit of precision medicine, the center uses AI for advanced medical image analysis. One such application evaluates breast cancer risk over a five-year span through CT scan assessments, while another monitors the progression of pulmonary fibrosis, enabling earlier detection and more informed treatment strategies.
Recognizing the potential of generative AI in analyzing large data sets, KFSHRC has also launched “JuhAIna” (inspired by the Arabic term for “bearer of certain news”). This system simplifies the process of reviewing medical records in the organ transplant clinic by automatically summarizing key information from patient histories, providing healthcare professionals with faster access to critical data for decision-making.
KFSHRC’s commitment to technological innovation has earned it global recognition. For two consecutive years, it has been ranked first in the Middle East and Africa and 20th globally among the world’s top 250 academic medical centers.
