Abu Dhabi, UAE, 22nd May, 2023: In line with the Supreme Audit Institution’s (SAI) keenness to strengthen strategic partnerships with pioneering auditing institutions, anti-corruption bodies and professional organizations at regional and international levels, His Excellency Humaid Obaid Khalifa Obaid Abushibs, President of the Supreme Audit Institution, has met with Judge Haider Hanoun, Chairman of the Iraqi Federal Integrity Commission (FCOI), at the SAI’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi.
The two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding as part of strategic efforts to enhance cooperation and identify the best international standards and practices in the field of combating financial and administrative corruption and promoting the principles of responsibility, transparency, and integrity.
The parties also discussed the importance of building strategic relationships in areas that would improve capabilities and competencies to preserve public funds.
Commenting on the MoU, SAI’s spokesperson said: “We are pleased to have met with Judge Haider Hanoun and his accompanying delegation in order to build strategic partnerships between the SAI and FCOI in line with our vision to enhance the foundations of integrity and transparency in the United Arab Emirates.
For his part, a spokesperson for the Iraqi Commission of Integrity said: “Our partnership with the Supreme Audit Institute of the UAE is strategic and we welcomed the opportunity to get a closer look at the important anti-corruption initiatives led by SAI, its mechanisms to promote the principles of accountability and integrity, and the Institution’s community engagement practices in combating any misuse of funds and public resources.”
The Iraqi Federal Commission of Integrity is an independent body, responsible to the Iraqi Parliament, and is designed to prevent corruption, using any or all legal means within its remit to implement its functions.
