Dubai, UAE, 6 May 2023: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced that more than 578,000 residential customers are enrolled in the ‘My Sustainable Living Programme’ since its launch in October 2018 until the end of 2022. The programme, the first of its kind in the Middle East, has witnessed an excellent response for its success in helping customers raise the efficiency of electricity and water consumption and contribute to reducing their carbon footprint.
‘My Sustainable Living Programme’ helps customers to monitor their electricity and water consumption proactively and online without needing to contact DEWA. The programme uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) and behavioural science. It includes several key features, including a dashboard that enables customers to compare their monthly electricity and water use with the average consumption of similarly efficient homes, and make informed decisions based on current data with other highly efficient homes. Customers get monthly reports on consumption. The programme is available on its website and smart app. The app is available on iOS, Android and Huawei and Apple Watch.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, highlighted that DEWA supports the Dubai Demand Side Management Strategy 2030, by providing innovative services and programmes and state-of-the-art digital infrastructure that keeps pace with the latest Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies and harness them to accelerate and automate all processes for customers and employees. This enhances society’s happiness and enables real-time, seamless services around the clock. Implementing the Dubai Demand Side Management Strategy reduced electricity consumption in Dubai by 17% per capita and water consumption by 21% per capita compared to 2010. This contributed to avoiding over 14 million tonnes of CO2 emissions between 2011 and 2021.
Al Tayer noted that DEWA provides all its services through its website and smart app, in addition to many smart and digital channels that help customers complete their transactions at any time and from anywhere, saving their time and effort, and contributing to protecting the environment and natural resources and reducing carbon emissions.
Customers can use the many benefits and technical features of ‘My Sustainable Living Programme’. This is by logging into their DEWA accounts on the website or smart app, and updating their consumption patterns. DEWA interacts with its users through its website, smart app, email and text messages.
