“For Our Emirates We Plant” programme was rolled out in 2007 by the Emirates Environmental Group. Since then EEG has been actively planting indigenous trees across the UAE. Through this programme, we uphold the vision of our founding father  – the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and do our part in ensuring that UAE moves forward as he envisioned it.

EEG has commenced on the the green voyage for the season from the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in association with Abu Dhabi City Municipality – represented by Shahama Municipality Centre on 21st  Oct & 22nd  Oct at Ghantoot under the umbrella of EEG’s “For Our Emirates We Plant” programme. Four renowned organisations namely AD Terminals, Deutsche Bank, Gulf International Bank (GIB) and Arabian Gulf Melco Elevator LLC came together to plant  880 saplings of Ghaf trees.

EEG Chairperson and Co-Founder, Mrs. Habiba Al Mar’ashi said on the occasion “EEG is an accredited member to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).  We joined the plant for the planet programme that was launched by UNEP in 2006 and in 2007 we introduced it as an annual action programme to introduce urban afforestation concept and encourage the active involvement of all sectors of the society. The total number of indigenous trees planted by the group till date has reached 2,109,785 trees, this translates into the ability to sequester 12,440.77 metric tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere annually.”

She further added “In order to mitigate the effects of climate change, the UAE is controlling emissions, reducing flaring of natural gas, increasing energy efficiency and undertaking many other effective steps. The UAE Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative is a national drive to achieve net-zero emissions, making the Emirates the first Middle East and North Africa (MENA) nation to do so.”

EEG as an accredited NGO to the United Nations Environment Programme, and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, has conducted this important event which will result in the direct deliverables of severaly UN SDGs namely Goal #3: Good health and wellbeing, Goal #11: Sustainable cities and communities; Goal #12: Responsible consumption production, Goal #13: climate Action, Goal #15: Life on land and Goal #17: Partnerships to Achieve the Goals.
