ENGIE and Al Jouf Cement Collaborate on 22 MWp Solar Project to Drive Saudi Vision 2030 Goals

  • Carbon Reduction: The project will cut emissions by 1,481,100 tons, boosting sustainability in the energy-intensive cement industry.
  • Renewable Integration: A 22 MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) plant will power Al Jouf Cement’s Turaif facility, promoting clean energy in Saudi Arabia.

ENGIE, a global leader in low-carbon energy solutions, has entered a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Al Jouf Cement Company (AJCC) to establish a cutting-edge 22 MWp solar PV plant at AJCC’s facility near Turaif in the Northern Borders Province. This milestone project is a significant step towards achieving Saudi Vision 2030’s renewable energy and sustainability objectives.

Project Overview
Spanning over 420,000 square meters, the solar PV installation will deliver reliable, on-site renewable energy tailored to meet Al Jouf Cement’s operational demands. Designed with a 25-year lifespan, the project will substantially reduce the plant’s carbon footprint while ensuring energy efficiency.

ENGIE will adopt a turnkey approach, encompassing design, construction, ownership, and operation of the solar plant. The PPA allows Al Jouf Cement to secure a fixed electricity rate, offering cost predictability and reducing reliance on conventional energy sources.

Leadership Perspectives
Pierre Cheyron, Managing Director of Energy Solutions AMEA at ENGIE, stated:
“This partnership embodies our commitment to advancing sustainable energy in the GCC. By integrating solar PV technology into Al Jouf Cement’s operations, we contribute to both industrial resilience and Saudi Arabia’s ambitious environmental goals.”

Abdulkarim M. Al Nuhayer, CEO of Al Jouf Cement, added:
“At Al Jouf Cement, sustainability drives our vision. Partnering with ENGIE on this solar initiative is a transformative step toward reducing emissions and strengthening our energy independence, in line with Saudi Vision 2030.”

Impact on Sustainability
The project not only highlights Saudi Arabia’s commitment to renewable energy but also sets a benchmark for sustainability in the industrial sector. By reducing over 1.48 million tons of carbon emissions, it reinforces the nation’s focus on creating a low-carbon future while fostering innovation in renewable energy solutions.

ENGIE’s Role
From inception to operation, ENGIE will ensure optimal performance and maintenance of the solar PV plant. This enables Al Jouf Cement to focus on its core operations, benefiting from the reliability of a sustainable energy supply.

This collaboration underscores ENGIE’s mission to revolutionize the energy landscape in the Middle East, driving industrial decarbonization and contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable future.
