Abu Dhabi, UAE, 11 November 2024: Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the world’s largest producer of premium aluminium, has announced the extension of its CelestiAL-R supply agreement with the BMW Group for the coming years.
CelestiAL-R, the world’s first aluminium blend made with solar power and recycled metal, is used by the BMW Group to manufacture high-quality aluminium components for its vehicles.
Oliver Zipse, Chairman of BMW AG, visited EGA’s Jebel Ali plant and Dubai’s Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park to mark the signing of the new agreement.
EGA has supplied aluminium to BMW since 2013 and was the first to provide CelestiAL solar aluminium in 2021. Since 2023, all aluminium supplied to BMW has been CelestiAL-R. EGA will continue supplying tens of thousands of tonnes of CelestiAL-R annually, with plans to further increase the proportion of recycled metal.
Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, CEO of EGA, said: “The BMW Group demands the highest quality metal made with solar power, and this drives our innovation at EGA. We will continue increasing the proportion of recycled metal in our CelestiAL-R while meeting BMW’s specifications.”
EGA ensures the quality of its metal through advanced chemical analysis at every step of production. The company is also constructing the UAE’s largest aluminium recycling facility in Al Taweelah, which will process 170,000 tonnes of secondary billets annually, with operations starting in 2026.
