DEWA awards 464 distinguished employees who have won Nujoom DEWA internal excellence awards

Dubai, UAE, 16 December 2022: In line the strategy of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) to develop performance and sustain excellence, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, honoured 464 distinguished employees who have won Nujoom DEWA 2022, the new name for its internal excellence awards. The honouring ceremony was attended by DEWA’s Executive Vice Presidents, Vice Presidents and officials.

It also benefited from lessons to reshape the traditional work mechanisms and set priorities, especially with the safety of our human resources and ensuring the continuity of our services,” said Al Tayer during the award ceremony.

“The secret of DEWA’s success lies in applying the principles and practices of excellence across all its operations and activities as well as in strategic planning, in addition to including them within our corporate culture. We have developed a comprehensive strategy to face the challenges and rapid developments that the world is witnessing. We have succeeded in turning challenges into promising opportunities thanks to strategic planning, which is a key pillar of our integrated organisational framework. This helped DEWA top the ‘Elite’ category in the Dubai Government Excellence Program with an unprecedented record score of 705 marks. DEWA also achieved over 800 marks in the evaluation by the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) and we have achieved various Guinness Book of Records, in addition to many other achievements that we are proud of,” added Al Tayer.

Al Tayer explained that DEWA has become a global benchmark for best practices across all its work areas. It aids Dubai’s progress towards the future by reworking the traditional concepts of work mechanisms to suit rapid global changes. DEWA also promotes the Emirate’s position as an incubator for creativity and a beacon of innovation through its globally leading various projects and initiatives. Its results surpass major European and American utilities in several indicators. In 2021, losses from electricity transmission and distribution networks were 3.3% compared to around 6-7% in Europe and the USA. Water network losses were also reduced to 5.3% compared to about 15% in North America, making it one of the lowest water losses worldwide. DEWA achieved a new world record in electricity Customer Minutes Lost (CML) per year. Dubai recorded 1.43 minutes per customer in 2021, compared to around 15 minutes recorded by leading utility companies in the European Union. DEWA continues to work on creating unique experiences that enhance the happiness of all stakeholders and contribute to making Dubai the smartest and happiest city in the world.

Al Tayer commended DEWA’s outstanding employees and urged them to continue their excellence to take DEWA to greater heights and maintain the UAE’s leadership in all areas. This will help achieve the objectives of the UAE Centennial 2071 to make the UAE the world’s leading nation by its Centennial in 2071.

Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, said that the Nujoom DEWA promotes sustainable excellence by encouraging creativity and innovation and stimulating positive employee competitiveness. This is achieved by adopting constructive ideas that contribute to the development and upgrading of services as well as the happiness of all stakeholders.

Categories that were honoured included individual and administrative categories, the Best Cable Jointer, the Happiest Work Environment, the Environmental Excellence Award, the Health and Safety Award, the Share.K Award, DEWA Female Ambassadors, Agility, Governance & Compliance Champions, and the Best Supportive Division for Social Responsibility & Social Initiatives.

The employees who were recognised expressed their appreciation to DEWA’s top management for their efforts in providing a positive work environment that contributes to promoting a culture of organisational excellence.
