Emirates Environmental Group commences the “Clean UAE” expedition from the Emirate of Ajman

Under the prestigious Patronage of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment

Under the patronage of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) and in association with the Ministry of Community Development (MOCD), the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) commenced the 21st cycle of the annual nationwide Clean-up campaign. The campaign is being rolled out under a new name; the “Clean UAE”, which  has begun from the Emirate of Ajman on the 5th of December to coincide with the world’s volunteer day on Sheikh Ammar Bin Humaid Street in association with Municipality and Planning Department of Ajman.  

The group shall conduct similar drives in all Emirates, on the following dates. Pick your city and register on campaigns@eeg.ae to join the bandwagon.

  • 7th December –  Fujairah
  • 8th December – Sharjah
  • 10th December – Dubai
  • 12th December – Ras Al Khaimah
  • 13th December – Umm Al Quwain
  • 15th December – Abu Dhabi (Conclusion of the Clean UAE Campaign)

The campaign in Ajman registered the participation of 804 participants representing private sector companies, schools, families and several voluntary groups from around the country who collected 1,350 kg of waste including material that was segregated and sent for recycling. The clean-up site and covered an area of 3 km2.

Mrs. Habiba Al Mar’ashi – Co- Founder and Chairperson of the Emirates Environment Group in her opening address mentioned “What started as a small call to action has now reverberated loudly to reach national level and cover every corner of this country. It has attracted and garnered a great deal of interest from all sectors of society. Over the years, this campaign has grown to become the most popular action oriented community based programme amongst environmental enthusiasts in the UAE. I am truly humbled to witness that the participants who joined us encompass – individuals and families from different backgrounds as well as private organisations, academia, multi-national corporations and other stakeholders.”

Adding further she quoted “Programmes such as Clean UAE bring people from all walks of life together as one to establish sustainable environmental goals within the country and eventually show the world by setting an example of how challenges can be overcome and accomplishments achieved if we set our minds to it in a unified manner.”

Sheikh Eng. Humaid Al Mualla, Director of Environment and Development Department from Municipality and Planning Department of Ajman said “Preserving the environment, preserving its resources, and ensuring a better tomorrow for future generations is one of its most important goals. Therefore, it is pleased to participate in all specific campaigns concerned with inculcating positive culture, encouraging joint work, and supporting mutual cooperation with all agencies, institutions, and individuals to preserve the image of the country that embraces beauty, clean atmosphere and green cities.”

Mrs. Al Mar’ashi concluded the event by thanking the supporters of the campaign – Municipality and Planning Department of Ajman and Ajman Police. As an accredited body of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), EEG is honoured to record positive achievements of the Clean UAE 2022 campaign which effectively contributes to the achievement of several of UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) including Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities; Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production; Goal 13: Climate Action; Goal 15: Life on Land and Goal 17: Partnerships for Goals.
