Swiss International School Dubai marks the UAE 50th National Day

Dubai, Business News: Swiss International School Dubai marked the UAE 50th National Day by holding an all-day event at the school’s Al Jaddaf site, with a host of Emirati traditional arts, crafts and dancing on display.

After an assembly featuring 188 pupils, which included songs, dance and recitals relating to the history and traditions of the UAE, pupils were invited to a large ‘Heritage Village’ pop up on one of the school’s sports pitches.

Students at the leading international IB school had the opportunity to see traditional Emirati customs, such as weaving, fishing net making, Arabic bread making and pottery, for example.

A visiting camel and falcons caused a stir among the excited pupils and staff, while the traditional Al Ayyala stick dancing wowed the crowds. There was also a fascinating pop-up museum on site, including old technology and products from yesteryear.

Deputy Head of School, Rania Hussein, said: “Being a global citizen is a process – it is never complete. Working towards understanding the world and the people living it start with recognizing and celebrating where we are. The learning opportunities this week were huge – our pupils looked back at the last 50 years, through the lens of history, culture, heritage, and economy. They also explored the infinite possibilities for next 50 recognizing that the sky (or rather Mars) is truly the limit for this great country that we call home!”

Swiss International School Dubai has recently been shortlisted for two awards in the Schools Compared Top Schools Awards 2021, Best International Baccalaureate Curriculum School in the UAE and Best School for Post-16 Education in the UAE.
